What a buyer should know

One hull, three quite different boats

The 777 Evolution is sold as a single 7.77 m carbon day boat, but the drivetrain choice changes what you are buying more than the hull does. At 11 kW it is an 11-knot displacement launch. At 125 kW it does 45 knots. Those are not variants of one boat in any way a buyer experiences; they are three boats that happen to share a moulding, a beam of 2.62 m and the fold-down side balconies that are the model's real signature — a superyacht feature at day-boat scale, and the reason to look at this over a conventional carbon runabout.

The construction is carbon vacuum-infusion sandwich throughout, and the weight tells you the yard means it: from 1,500 kg for a 7.77 m boat carrying eight.

Read the range figures in the units NERO uses

NERO quotes range in kilometres and at two settings, which is more honest than most. At 10 km/h the 125 kW version covers 220 km, or about nineteen hours. At its 45-knot top speed it covers 35 km, in forty minutes. Both numbers are true and they are forty minutes and nineteen hours apart. Ask for range at a realistic 20-25 knot cruise before comparing it with anything.

Charging time is not published for any of the three. That is the figure to ask for, because on an 81 kWh pack it decides whether the boat suits a day of short runs or one long one.

The price needs two questions

€115,500 is a net figure, and it buys the 11 kW boat — the slowest of the three. NERO lists the 60 kW and 125 kW drivetrains as to be announced, which means the boat in the photographs, the 45-knot one, has no published price at all. Establish which drivetrain a quotation covers and what VAT treatment it assumes before setting it against anything else in the band.
