Electric Fishing Boats: Why Quiet Matters, and What Exists

Five electric boats in this catalogue have a fishing brief; three are under 8.53 m. Specifications as builders publish them, missing figures left missing.

An electric motor makes no engine note and no exhaust, and that is the entire case for fishing under electric power — sound and vibration carry further and faster through water than through air, which is why trolling motors have been electric for decades. What exists as a complete, factory-built electric fishing boat is a much thinner story: this catalogue records five models with a fishing brief, and only three of them are under 8.53 m and therefore on this site.

Why quiet matters

Sound and vibration are the part an engine cannot fix

Water is a better conductor of sound than air, and a hull with a running combustion engine in or on it puts noise and vibration into the water continuously, not just when it is moving. An electric drive removes the source rather than muffling it. Nothing about this is new thinking — it is the reason the trolling motor exists as a separate category of equipment, bolted to the bow of boats whose main engine is petrol. What has changed is that the main engine can now be electric too, so the boat is quiet at every speed rather than only when the petrol engine is switched off.

Fumes matter most when you are stationary

The fishing duty cycle is the worst case for a combustion outboard: long periods idling or trolling at low revs, often with the boat sitting in its own exhaust in still air. That is where the smell reaches the crew, the tackle and the catch. An electric drive produces none of it, at any throttle setting, and there is no fuel to spill into the water at the transom while you are handling gear.

A slow day is the easy case for a battery

Range anxiety is a planing-speed problem. A boat that spends most of a day drifting, holding station or moving between marks at a few knots is asking far less of its pack than one running at cruising speed for hours, which is why a modest battery capacity can cover a full session. The Vision Marine Phantom is 5.03 m and rated for 10 people. That capacity is a certification figure rather than a description of a fishing party, and it is the only number besides the length that the builder publishes to us: no battery capacity, no motor power, no top speed, no range.

The Princecraft Brio e-17 is 5.2 m and rated for 5. Again, that is the whole record. Two boats out of three on this site therefore have a length, a headcount and nothing that would let you judge how long a day they can do — and we have left those fields empty rather than filling them with something that looks about right.

The Flux Marine Scout 215 Dorado is the exception, and the only boat in this section on this site with a full drivetrain on record: 6.55 m long, 2.57 m beam, an 84 kWh battery, 112 kW of motor power, 27.8 kn top speed, 26 nm range and 9 people. The one figure that matters and is absent is the speed that 26 nm was measured at. The builder publishes the range; the pairing is what would make it comparable with anything else.

None of the three publishes a price.

The two on the sister site

The Crooze Yachts EZ 28 is 8.67 m — just over this site's boundary — with a 130 kWh battery, 207 kW, 30 kn top speed, 120 nm range, 12 people and a published starting price of EUR 269,000. It is the only European boat of the five.

The Navier N30 is 9.1 m, with an 80 kWh battery, 180 kW, 35 kn top speed, 75 nm range and a published starting price of EUR 276,000. No passenger capacity is published for it.

The two are worth naming together because they sit at almost the same money and answer the question differently: the EZ 28 carries the larger battery and the longer published range, the N30 the higher top speed. Both are on the sister site rather than this one purely on length.

What this section does not tell you

Most of it. Three boats on this site, of which one has a drivetrain on record and two have a length and a seat count. No price on any of the three. No charging figure on any of the five. That is not an editorial choice to be brief — it is what the builders publish, and where they publish nothing we say so instead of estimating. A boat's page here carries the fields its builder has actually stated, and blank means blank.

It is also worth saying plainly that the electric fishing boat is early rather than absent. Five models with a fishing brief across a catalogue this size is a thin count, and the thinness is real: the type is being built, but by very few yards. Four of the five are North American — the Phantom and the Brio e-17 from Canada, the Scout 215 Dorado and the N30 from the United States — against one European entry, the Bulgarian EZ 28.

How a boat gets into this section

A boat is here because this catalogue records it as having a fishing brief, which in most cases means the builder presents it as a fishing boat in its own material. That is a record of what has been stated, not a judgement about which hulls would fish well, and it is worth knowing which kind of claim you are reading.

The practical consequence: a boat that would suit fishing perfectly well, but whose builder never says so, is not in this section. Where a builder describes the boat some other way, or says nothing at all, we have nothing to record, and the section stays as short as the statements behind it.

Is there an electric bass boat?

Not in this catalogue. "Bass boat" is an American term for an American freshwater type — low, flat-decked, built around a casting platform and a big outboard — and none of the five boats above is recorded here as one. We are not going to relabel a European day boat as a bass boat to answer the phrase.

Two things are worth knowing if that is what you were searching for. First, this network's centre of gravity is Europe. Second, we list boats as their builders build them, which means a petrol hull repowered with an electric outboard does not appear here at all. Neither of those is a statement that nothing exists. It is a statement about what this catalogue can honestly show you, which is not the same thing.
